Stephanie Malsed has been fortunate to call Telluride home for 27 years, after originally hailing from Iowa, where she received a BFA in Interior Design from Iowa State University. She spent summers between college working at a Ouray art gallery; upon graduation and interviewing in Chicago and Denver, Telluride was included in the mix. A fortuitous lead landed her an interview and subsequent job with Marla F. Croke Architecture. As the “real world” faded away, 10 years later she launched Designs West. The name was conceived on a dreary, cold November day sitting in her ISU design studio, senior year, thinking about what she wanted to do - Design and where she wanted to be - West. She moved to Telluride at the beginning stages of the construction boom and had the opportunity to work on the first “big house", was part of the initial wave of historical renovations in town, and participated in the development of Mountain Village. This long and storied career has allowed her to work with top tier Architects, Contractors and Clients. A crossing of paths with CC at Marla’s office, being neighbors with Aura, a shared passion for all things design and a desire to collaborate has led a natural path to the Zinque Design team.

When not designing ,she can be found making A Cup of Sun, and organic turmeric superfood paste or melting wax, mixing fragrances and hand pouring candles for Live everWell: a non-toxic, natural aromatherapy line. Developing and creating these product lines have married her creative forces with her passion for health and well-being. It has also deepened her collaboration with Zinque Design, providing a zQ-branded, bespoke, aromatherapy line of candles and room sprays.

On the off chance she isn’t designing houses or new products, Steph can be found trying to keep up with her vivacious 11 year old son, Smith. He loves playing soccer and lax, all things WWII planes and is a rippin’ skier (like his dad). She can also be found hiking with her wild child (dog), Forest. When time allows (or as often as possible!), a shared love of the ocean and beach time draws her family further west to sunny southern California beaches and beyond.
